Seiko, founded in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori in Tokyo, Japan, has evolved into a global icon of precision timekeeping. Initially known for its clocks and pocket watches, Seiko revolutionized the industry with the introduction of Japan’s first wristwatch in 1913. Throughout the 20th century, Seiko pioneered advancements in watch technology, including the world’s first quartz watch in 1969, which reshaped the market with its unprecedented accuracy, and one of the world’s first integrated chronographs, a title they disputed with Zenith.
The Seiko 6139 series, launched in 1969, was a groundbreaking achievement as one of the first automatic chronographs available globally. Known for its robustness and reliability, it featured a column-wheel design and a vertical clutch system, innovations that ensured smooth operation and precise timing. The 6139-6010 variant, nearly identical to the 6011, was made famous by film star and martial arts genius Bruce Lee; this dial configuration was immortalized with his name ever since.
This particular 6139-6011 was delivered new in Italy, polished once, and serviced in early 2024. In addition to its maintenance, we have added a Seiko ‘Railroad’ bracelet and a sapphire crystal, to ensure its next custodian enjoys the watch for many years. All lume has been kept original. The watch comes with a period Seiko Box with its corresponding leaflet.
