Founded in the Swiss Valley of Jura by Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the eponymous brand has always been synonymous with sophistication and fine watchmaking. In 1963, the brand sold to the Scheufele family, as well-known German goldsmithing dynasty looking to have watch movements produced in-house. Since then, and still to this day, the brand has grown into a worldwide manufacturer that, unlike other Swiss watchmakers, has still retained its independence from bigger conglomerates.
Since 1988 and 2002, Chopard became the official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia and the Historic Monaco Grand Prix, respectively. To commemorate the former, Chopard released a new collection of sports chronographs with classic design: iconic Dunlop tyre rubber strap, and three ringed registers ‘alla Daytona’, and a very Patekesque steel case around a variant of the tested-and-true ETA 2894.
This particular Chopard is the 8331 model, the last one to have a domed crystal, and the most recognizable variant of the Mille Miglia. It comes with box, genuine strap, tag, and manual, as well as two Chopard DVD’s detailing the Mille Miglia rally.
