Established in 1926 in Grenchen, Switzerland, Nivada is one of the first Swiss manufacturers to produce automatic wristwatches for the mass market, with models such as the Antartic (1958), the Chronomaster (1961), and the Depthomatic (1964). In the 1960’s, the brand had to rename its watches to Nivada Grenchen due to its phonetic similarity to Movado; in the United States, Nivada was sold under Croton (sometimes as Croton Nivada), and in South Korea, the name changed to Kim Suk Keun Watch Company until the 2000’s. At the turn of the Millenium, the brand was purchased by Grupo Salinas, an investment conglomerate from Mexico, in an effort to breathe new life into the nearly century-old brand.
Inspired closely by the Chronomaster designs of the 1960’s and the 1970’s, Nivada Grechen and H0ndinkee teamed up in 2024 for an exclusive release of a limited edition of 150 pieces of a Chronoking ‘Paul Newman’ with the ‘Grey Glow’ treatment on the dial and strap. The result is a subtle, tasteful chronograph that retains its retro identity, while shying away from the Chronoking’s bolder hues.
This particular watch is brand new and never worn, and comes with its original box, label and papers as it did when new.
