A car with modest origins, the original Renault Alpine A110 (1963-1977) was born as a Michelotti-designed berlinette sharing mechanical components from contemporary Renault models, such as the Dauphine, R8 and R16. Over the course of fifteen years, the Alpine was gradually upgraded with larger engine sizes and other driving improvements, from an anemic Gordini 1.1L to a 140hp, 1.6-liter powerplant from the contemporary Renault 17.
The A110 enjoyed success as a rally car throughout the early 1970’s, and was also manufactured under license in Mexico and Spain. Eventually, it found a formidable contender in the Lancia Stratos, a far more purpose-built machine, and was retired to live on as one of France’s automotive legends.
Over fifty years later, the A110 is reborn as a retro-inspired coupé with a 252hp 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder, shared with the Mégane RS. Initially offered in three trim levels (a plain “Pure”, the “Première” launch edition with 1955 units, and the luxurious “Legènde”), the range was further expanded with the 300-horsepower A110S (2019) and A110GT (2020) and a multitude of limited special editions.
This particular A110S is the model’s higher-performance, 300hp version, and it is finished in the brand’s iconic Alpine Blue. A brand new car with less than 100 kilometres in the odometer, this Alpine is ready to be enjoyed by those seeking a retro (yet competent) alternative to the Alfa Romeo 4C and the Porsche Cayman.
