Triumph chose Italian Giovanni Michelotti to design the replacement of their first post-war, small sports car, the four cylinder TR3. The TR4 was developed through the independently rear-sprung TR4A, to be followed later by a new model with a six-cylinder engine. Finally, in 1969, the TR6 arrived and it was a major updating of the earlier model by Karmann of Germany, using the centre portion of the earlier cars as a base. A bolder front fascia and distinctive “Kamm tail” rear end were integrated, resulting in a more aggressive look.
