In the early 1960’s, Nissan sought to replace their open-top Sports/Fairlady model with a modern, sleek sportscar keeping up with the times. The Nissan Silvia, of obvious Italian inspiration and styled by Count Albrecht Goertz, was meant to be the brand’s flagship, yet it proved too expensive to produce and sell. The brand’s next attempt, the ‘Z’ series (240Z, 260Z, 280Z and so on) would prove an overnight success and would chance the public’s perception on Japanese cars forever.
This 1977 Datsun 280Z, finished in a tasteful light blue metallic, has received a full rotisserie cosmetic restoration and a major mechanical refurbishment to drive and feel as new.
