The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti originated as the replacement for the 456 as their 2+2 flagship for the new Millennium, and paid tribute to the 375MM built for Roberto Rossellini as a gift to Ingrid Bergman. Named after legendary coachbuilder and long-time friend of Enzo, Sergio Scaglietti, it shared its engine with the Ferrari 575 and provided the blueprint for its two-seater cousin, the 599 GTB.
After leaving the halls of Carrozzeria Scaglietti, the bodies of the 612 were then mated to a tubular chassis in Maranello, and equipped with a multitude of options at the choice of the client —manual or F1A Graziano automated transmissions, glass roofs, an optional HGTC-C handling package, and a wide variety of tasteful colours, available in two-tone guise for the ‘Sessanta’ anniversary run of 60 cars.
Producting 533hp, the 612 could reach 100kmph in a respectable 4 seconds, and a top speed of 320kmph, all with surprising levels of refinement and comfort. Ferrari’s second full-aluminum car —right after the 360— was one tuned for long-distance driving and usability, with generous seating space and competent handling for a vehicle of this size.
This particular car was delivered in Japan in Grigio Ingrid (named after actress Ingrid Bergman) over black leather, and has covered less than 6,000 original kilometres. Since our acquisition of the car, we re-fitted its original Becker radio and carried out a full timing belt service in February of 2023. The car is original down to the paint, and comes with manuals, tools, and an original Ferrari car cover.
What could be a better tribute to Ingrid Bergman’s 375 MM coupé, than a Ferrari sharing the same design language and colour, exactly fifty years later?
