Established by Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, Scuderia Toro Rosso is one of two F1 racing teams under the umbrella of the famed Red Bull energy drink brand. A junior to Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso is aimed at developing drivers with high potential to compete on a senior level.
The STR8 is the team’s eighth F1 car for the 2013 racing season, and the last car to feature a Ferrari engine in V8 configuration before switching to Renault V6 engines in 2014.
Procured from one of the sponsors of the team in Abu Dhabi, this experimental gearbox is the original one used by the STR8 to ‘learn the tracks’ on a computerized system for the 2013 season, at the hands of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne. While not the actual gearbox used in the race, it is an original engineered for the Toro Rosso team and cost nearly $1M to develop.
