Preceded by the Cheetah and the LM001 prototypes, decades before the release of the popular Urus, the Lamborghini LM002 was the first offroader built by the brand. Originally planned to have a Chrysler V8, the LM002 ended up getting its Countach brethren’s V12 engine.
Produced between 1986 and 1993, the LM002 was aimed to satisfy the need for a capable, powerful four-wheel drive military truck, in the style of a Humvee, a Mercedes Gelandewagen, or a Toyota Megacruiser. The LM002 found a particularly warm reception by the Saudi government, who intended to buy an entire fleet for their armed forces. Popular with the local sheikhs, the LM002 deal did not materialise, yet it remained a favourite in the region until this day.
This particular LM002, a 1988 model with a carburetted 5L engine, was comissioned by King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia. After construction, it was taken off the production line and coachbuilt by Carrozzeria Diomante —famous for the Sultan of Brunei’s station wagons— into a two-door hunting rig, featuring a unique telescopic passenger seat and extended bed.
